G'day everyone,

Welcome to the 1998 ski season.  Last year was a complete wash out as far as skiing went, with a near total lack of snow.  Chris Tschepp was one of the few to do some rock hopping.  I was complaining to Brian Logan about not getting my skis on last year; he attempted to cheer me up by saying he hadn't had his on last season either, and that was the first time since 1952.
 
The club has manage to survive, but needs people to come and ski this season to secure its future. 

  
 
News Flash After 3 years of delicate negotiations Chris and Arthur have bought a snow groomer. 

Successful Work Party

 June 13-14th.  Ridge rope spliced, new pylons put in, old ones taken out and the fixable ones fixed, gravel laid on the road below the top car park. 
Improvements A short list of some of the many improvements to Awakino over the last few years: 
  • Main hut 2 electric ovens + coal range, 4 internal toilets - internal access, carpet and Juno in bunk room. 
  • Nissan hut Carpet and Juno in living area, water to the field, including a new ergonomic valve. 
  • Ridge tow has been skied on, but due to the extreme harsh conditions requires a lot of work to keep running sweetly.
For Sale Gerry McCabe has a pair of 111/2 rear entry ski boots for sale at a bargain price.

Ski Weekends A special $50.00 weekend has been devised.  It includes 2 days skiing, dinner, bunk and breakfast.
Ski Weeks There will be a ski week, August 8th-15th.  More can be arranged depending on demand, and snow.  Please contact us if you are interested:

Sneak Preview

Chris and myself are running a weekend for trail-bike riders next summer.
Proposed itinerary:  Saturday morning meet at Kurow, BBQ lunch at field, a grand traverse ending up at the main hut.  Dinner, bunk, breakfast and ride out. Cost?  100.00? 
N.B.  Don't forget the hut is a fantastic venue for out of season activities, ie re-unions etc.  (please let us know before hand).
